Save Western Port Woodlands
Website Address
Save Western Port Woodlands was established in 2020 when the Bass Coast community became aware of the threat posed by a surge in sand mining operations and applications in the coastal woodland corridor along the eastern side of Western Port.
There are currently 10 sand mines operating in Western Port Woodlands with another 9 work authorities approved and seven under application. Much of this woodland corridor is within the Western Port Biosphere.
We have over 500 members and supporters and almost 4000 people have signed our petitions to the Victorian Parliament asking for an end to sand mining in the woodlands.
Our long-term vision is for a Western Port Woodlands National Park to be co-managed by the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation and Trust for Nature for the benefit of all Victorians, but our immediate concern is to stop sand mining from destroying our woodlands.
