This activity book is designed for primary students to learn about marine environments, habitats, species, sustainability and responsible behaviours through engaging activities and exercises.

The Marine Estate Agents Program is an education program for HSIE and Science subjects under the NSW syllabus. Many activities are also aligned with the cross-curriculum priorities of Sustainability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures and Histories.

Annie and the Waves is a children’s storybook that follows Annie’s beach holiday and her growing confidence as she meets surf lifesavers and learns about waves, beach safety, and asking for help when needed. It highlights key safety messages such as swimming between the flags, raising your hand if in trouble, and choosing safe beaches. The page also offers a related interactive session of 20 to 25 minutes for young children to virtually engage with lifesavers and explore these concepts.

This lesson plan focuses on learning about the importance of coral reefs and how colour can act as an indicator of reef health. Students develop an understanding of living things (coral) that can grow in different shapes and their needs within the habitat (coral reefs). Severe changes in water temperature can cause corals to change colour from brown/green to white (coral bleaching).

Students will become Earthwatch Explorers by using their senses to explore sections of their school using science equipment and techniques.

This unit engages students in inquiry-based activities on marine conservation, exploring pollution’s causes and effects, conducting waste decomposition experiments, and collaborating on conservation ideas to foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a deeper appreciation of ocean ecosystems.
